NecroBoi's Configuration v1.7 for QUAKE v1.01 Qcfg17.zip
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This version is intended for a 3 button mouse (you do have one, don't
you?). My personal recommendation is the TrackMan Marble - very cool.
Qcfg17.zip contents: autoexec.cfg, necro17.cfg, readme.txt
----------------------------------------------------------------------
- setup info
Print out this Readme.txt. It would be wise to delete your existing
config.cfg file and backup your autoexec.cfg, if you have one,
before continuing. Unzip QCFG17.ZIP into C:\quake_sw\id1\. On the
command line or in a batch file you would type:
quake.exe +exec necro17.cfg -nojoy
Once the game has started press F12 to bypass the menu screen to go
directly to the Introduction Level. Now, set your gamma correction
by using F11. To setup your 'Quick Rocket' button, press INS to
receive all weapons; select a weapon with the number keys; then fire
a single rocket with Mouse button 3. Press F4 to bring up the
Options Menu. Make sure Autorun and Lookspring are ON. Press F12
again. You are now ready to inflict pain upon others :). Please read
the 'special keys' section for more info on other key functions.
* If you select 'Reset to Defaults' (why would you want to do that?)
in the Options Menu, do not try to re-initialize autoexec.cfg or
necro16.cfg from the console. You will cause Quake to crash. Quit
the game, instead, and restart with the proper parameters.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
- movement keys
w - forward
s - back
a - move left (strafe)
d - move right (strafe)
f - move up
v - move down
- mouse controls
mouse forward - move forward
mouse backward - move backward
mouse move left -turn left
mouse move right - turn right
button 1 - fire weapon
button 2 - freelook - hold down and move mouse to look around
button 3 - quick rocket
button 2 - impulse 10 (weapon cycle) * when Freelook mode is engaged
* For a 2 button mouse you would simply have to remap MOUSE3 to a
suitable key on the keyboard. I would put Quick Rocket on (f) and
Moveup/MoveDown to (g) and (b) respectively. You can now use (v)
for Centerview should you desire.
* note - Mouse sensitivity has been set to a default of 5.00. If you
prefer a different setting you will have to alter the sensitivity
of the Full Zoom and Sniper Zoom modes as well
----------------------------------------------------------------------
- other keys
, - vid_mode 0 (320 x 200)
. - vid_mode 12 (640 x 480)
0 - quad damage
z - weapon forward cycle
CTRL - fly mode
SHIFT - jump
INS - impulse 9 (all weapons, keys and ammo)
DEL - god mode
PGDN - xray mode
PGUP - no clipping mode
HOME - brings up the Menu or restarts level if used with F12
END - notarget (invisibility to enemies - provided you don't shoot)
F7 - plays the next demo in the cycle - quits current game
F11 - gamma correction
F12 - loads the Introduction Level
----------------------------------------------------------------------
! special keys
- Float mode (b) allows you to maintain buoyancy in water; handy in
emergency situations where a quick swim to the surface is needed
note - Jump (SHIFT) is disabled when Float is activated and also,
Moveup and Movedown will have no effect
- Circle Strafing keys (q and e); use these keys in conjunction with
Forward (w); some experimenting is required to use these keys
successfully; these keys are redundant under bad lag conditions in
multiplayer games on the net
- added unsupported Crosshair (i) or (ALT)
- Freelook mode toggle key (c) or (l); remaps default mouse button 2
(+mlook) to IMPULSE 10 (weapon cycle)
note - You cannot set Crosshair in conjunction with this mode on.
Set Crosshair first before activating Freelook. Lookspring is set
as a default in non-Freelook mode. Centerview will not work with
Freelook so this function is not included in this configuration.
- sniper (SPACE) and full zoom (x) hotkey modes with a toggling
Crosshair; target centering has been incorporated into all zooms -
but will not function in network games
note - The fact that your weapon aims off to the lower right of
center is an error (deliberate?) in programming on id's part. I
have tried to compensate by changing the front/back and left/right
viewpoint offsets. The side effect is your weapon swinging to the
left on zoom modes. This is still visually appealing, in my
opinion, so I left it in. BTW - will not function in network games.
- regular full zoom ([ and ]) and an incremental zoom (o and p)
- Quick Rocket button (MOUSE3); this will fire 1 rocket and return to
your previous weapon
note - will not work with IMPULSE 10 (weapon cycle) selections; the
rocket will default back to your last keyboard weapon selection
- single grenade to double shotgun (r)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
- tips on usage
I generally use Freelook mode as my default setup. I switch to
Freelook OFF when certain situations require a bit more precision
in execution, such as jumping and moving onto narrow structures.
Please try out this script without modifications. I consider the
Lookspring mode more of a trainer and I suggest using it if you are
new to keyboard/mouse.I have tried to maintain the most logical
setup for all the features I have put into it. If you have a better
setup solution or improvement, pass it on to me. I am always open
to new ideas. I decided to omit miscelaneous scripting for pract-
ical reasons and have made this a purpose built configuration ...
